Coming from a Trujillo family with a recognized medical tradition, Dr. Plasencia graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of said city in 1983 and upon his arrival in Lima, he got first place in the Medical Resident contest of the San Fernando School of Medicine, Dr. Plasencia worked in the Department of Neurosurgery, National Hospital "Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen", Essalud, during the years from 1985 to 2000.

Dr. Plasencia received training at the Medical Center of the University of California in Los Angeles, USA,, first in 1993 and 1994 in the Nervous System Endovascular Therapy Service and then in 1998 in the Stereotactic Neurosurgery Service.
Upon his return, Dr. Plasencia introduced for the first time in Peru the technology of endovascular embolization reason why in 1996 he was distinguished by Essalud with the “Kaelin” award 1 A. In 1999 he received from the Peruvian Academy of Surgery the 1st "Hersil" Award by advanced clinical studies on endovascular neurosurgery in arteriovenous malformations, aneurysms and brain tumors. In 2003, together with Dr. Aldo Berti and Dr. Luis Pinillos, Dr. Andrés Plasencia also introduced the technology of stereotactic radiosurgery in Peru for the treatment of lesions such as arteriovenous malformations and brain tumors, achieving excellent results.

Currently, Dr. Plasencia works as endovascular neurosurgery at the Hemodynamics Institute of the International Clinics of San Borja, Tezza, and at the Gamma Knife Institute of the Pacific.
Additionally, Dr. Plasencia belongs to prestigious associations holding the positions of full member of the Ibero-Latin American Society of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (SILAN), of the Latin American Federation of Neurosurgery (FLANC), is a founding member of ALATRO (Latin American Association of Radiant Therapy in Oncology), associate member of the International Society of Stereotactic Radiosurgery (ISRS) and the Peruvian Academy of Surgery.
Dr. Plasencia participates as speaker in national and international scientific events and has articles in prestigious magazines and specialized texts in which he shows his extensive experience in the non-invasive treatment of high-risk brain lesions such as arteriovenous malformations, aneurysms and brain tumors.
